Brahms Requiem and Song of Destiny
Orchestra: Docklands Sinfonia
Soloists: Ross Cummings – Baritone, Sofia Ticciati – Soprano
Conductor: Jordan Theis
Brahms gained recognition as a composer, pianist, and conductor, and wrote numerous works, but his German Requiem is the only one for a large-scale choral work. It was met with immediate success, establishing him as a major force in European music. The beautiful fourth movement, How Lovely are Thy Dwellings, will be particularly familiar, as it is often performed as a single piece in its own right.
To this day, the Requiem remains one of the most beloved works in the choral repertoire, not only for its grace but for its comforting message of hope for the living – a reflection on life, loss, and consolation.
